Directed by Yoshifumi Kondo, screenplay / storyboard written by Hayao Miyazaki. Released in 1995. Shizuku is a bright junior high school student who loves reading books from the library. The name Seiji Amasawa is on the loan cards of almost every book she reads and finally she meets him, a boy determined to go to Italy to study under a violin maker after he graduates from middle school. Influenced by Seiji she starts to write a story about a Baron and the statue of a cat in the antique shop run by Seiji’s grandfather, and embarks on a fantastic journey of the imagination.
