Minyo are folk songs, born out of everyday life such as working songs and music to dance to after a hard days work. Thousands of different types of minyo exist, with even the smallest village having their own version of minyo. Many of these have either died out or are in danger of disappearing. Nevertheless many songs remain and this CD compiles some of the most famous from all regions of Japan. Artists include Miki Asari, Kumoe Sudo, Yoshiaki Noro and Etchu Gokayama.
