Product Description
Sakara music is a style of Nigerian popular music, based on Yoruba music traditions. Essentially praise music that uses Yoruba instruments, including the sakura drum, a kind of tambourine beaten with a stick and a goje violin. Abibu Oluwa started performing in the 1930s. After his death in 1964, he was replaced by Salami Alabi (Lefty) Balogun. Sakara influenced genres including Juju, hip-hop, and Fuji music, that also incorporated Muslim 'were' music. Saka Olayigbade was an early influencer on Fuji music and it's creator, Barrister.
