One of Japan's greatest popular composers, Ryoichi Hattori (1907-1993) is credited with popularizing blues with his song Wakare no Blues in 1937. The song 'Saint Louis Blues' had been introduced in 1923, but Hattori created his own version of the blues. His songs laid the foundation for post war enka, and he was one of the first composers to combine Japanese traditional elements with boogie woogie and other American elements. This CD features some of Hattori's lesser known tunes, on CD for the first time.
