Born in 1913, Toshiko Yonekawa is a Living National Treaure, the daughter of the first koto and sangen (shamisen) player of the Ikuta school, Kino Yonekawa. She was something of a child prodigy, and as a player became known for her skill of intonation, rhythm and sonic beauty.
