Local Religious Rituals and Folk Performance from Aogashima Island

Aogashima is a small island about 300 km south of Tokyo with a population of about 200. This is a DVD of extremely rare spiritual celebrations that have been performed for the first time outside of the island. Aogashima has long been isolated and retains a unique cultural identity and religion that stretches back centuries. The festivals and practices are not officially shinto with no official organization of the faith. Aogashima's isolation has kept this rare folk tradition alive.
