Brilliant 24 track CD that traces the history of Indonesian kroncong music. Kroncong is a mixture of European, Asian and possibly Arabic and African music. It is believed to originate in the communities of freed Portuguese slaves in the 16th century although the modern, classical style dates back to the 1920s or 30s. Vocals are the most important element accompanied by small guitars, a standard guitar, cello, contrabass, flute and violin. This 24 track CD compiles many rare, early recordings from Netty, Krontjong Orchest Eurasia, Miss Riboot, Miss Lee, Kartini, Ratna, and later recordings by Waldjinah and Gesang. Digi pack, rare photos, original labels of the 78s although liner notes are only in Japanese.
