The original roots of Japanese enka, the songs of the great Azenbo Soeda, political activist and balladeer (1872-1944). Enka songs sung by tenant farmers in rural areas and factory workers in Tokyo and Osaka. Most of the songs date back about 100 years, with some in the late 18th century. Essential listening.
