Live recording from the world famous Kiyomizu-dera Temple in Kyoto by Terry Riley and a group of about fifty musicians. In 1964. Riley composed 'In C', a monumental piece of minimal music, that Riley described as the music that symbolizes him. Terry Riley last performed the piece at the Carnegie Hall in New York in 2009, and has turned down all subsequent offers. This is therefore the first time in 15 years that the composer himself has participated.
The date was July 21st, a full moon night. The setting was Kyoto's Otowayama Kiyomizu-dera Temple, a registered World Heritage Site. A dedication performance was held to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the birth of 'In C'. As soon as the performance ended, a full moon rose above Kiyomizu-dera Temple. It was a historic celebration, with gratitude to the gods, Buddhas, Mother Nature, and even the universe for 'In C' being celebrated for 60 years.
