Awaibito were formed in the wake of the Tohoku earthquake in 2011 and feature Biho Narukoma (vocals, wadaiko) Kinsui Sato (shakuhachi) and Rikiya Nakamura (piano).They perform minyo (folk) songs from northerneast Japan, staying true to the original melodies but accompanying them with piano and other harmonic enhancements. It all works rather beautifully, with additional musicians playing guitar, bass and percussion.
