Born in Asakusa, Tokyo, in 1921, Teruko Akatsuki became a star of the Shochiki Revue and the Furukawa Roppa Troupe. She was one of the main stars of the boogie woogie scene in 1950s Japan, having many big hits including Minnesota Egg Seller and Tokyo Shoe Shine Boy, which has also been used in various films such as Akira and Inugashima, while songs such as Champon Rumba have been picked up by DJs in recent years.
