Group Sounds 'GS' emerged in the 60s influenced by visiting groups notably the Ventures, Animals (both 1965) and the Beatles (1966). They played 'eleki' (electric guitar) and modeled themselves on their western heroes. The Monkees TV show on TV became a big hit, and a Japanese show called 'Beat Pops' was compulsive viewing. The GS era was short lived but numerous figures who came out of it, became important singers, producers and actors. This compilation features the main artists who recorded for the Toshiba EMI label.
