Originally released in 1954. The distinctive folk music of the Amami islands. Dialects, folktales, and traditions reflect the islands historical separation. Folk Songs of the Amami Islands presents several individual vocal performances accompanied by the jyabisen (sanshin) a three-stringed plucked lute. Along with songs recounting various folktales and customs, there are also lullabies and childrens songs sung unaccompanied by some performers.

A mixed mode disc contains both audio (for CD audio players) and data (readable on other devices, like PCs).
