Dojo is the duo of koto player Michiyo Yagi and drummer Tamaya Honda. As a trio called Aketa Dojo (at the famous Aketa no Mise live house in Tokyo), the duo would feature an evolving third guest member. This album features the duo with guest percussionist/drummer Paal Nilssen and trumpet player Nils Petter Molvaer. This is a superb album of free jazz/improvisational/experimental music. Michiyo Yagi has collaborated with artists ranging from Peter Brotzmann, Jim O'Rourke, Sachiko M, Kazutoki Umezu and Yoshihide Otomo. Honda is one of the best jazz and improvised drummers in Japan, who has played with Peter Brotzmann, Akira Sakata among others. Yagi plays electric 21 stringed koto, 17 stringed bass koto and electronics.
