Bugaku is traditional Japanese dance, and the accompanying dance to gagaku, the ancient court music of Japan. This piece, Shunnoden Ichigu is probably the most highly regarded piece in the Bugaku repertoire. It is quite rarely performed, due to its length and complexity involving a large orchestra to perform the entire piece. This version was recorded in 1973 in Tokyo directed by a master of the Imperial Palace Music Department, Sueyoshi Abe, who also played tuzumi. Comes with short English liner notes.
