Sakura Hime Azuma Bunsho was premiered in 1817. It was revived in March 1967, with a fourth script written by Gunji Masakatsu., and this is now the definitive version. A priest Seigen, is having a relationship with a young assistant, Shiragiku. Due to the nature and problems they decide to commit suicide together by jumping off a cliff at Enoshima. They each take a part of an incense container, inscribed with eachother's name. Shiragiku prays to be born a woman in the next life, to become Seigen's lawful wife and jumps into the sea Frightened by a light and white heron flies up from the shadow of the cliff. Seigen steps back from the edge of the cliff.
